The multi-continent telecommunications consortium, SAMENA Telecommunications Council has announced the establishment of a new group, the SAMENA International Roaming Rate Group (SIRRG) to study international roaming. The intention to launch a new discussion group to facilitate discussion between the region's telecom operators was announced by Thomas Wilson, CEO of SAMENA during SAMENA's "Convergence to Istanbul 2009" which was held in November 2009 in Turkey.
Bocar A. BA, President of SAMENA said, "We believe that SAMENA International Roaming Rate Group (SIRRG) will contribute significantly to the collaboration among the telecom operators in the region, who are encouraged to participate in the proposed group and share their expertise for the benefit of the regions telecommunications sector. SAMENA perceives an immediate need to address this issue by creating a dialogue among SAMENA members through its regulatory working group."
SAMENA's primary goal is to facilitate collaboration, and the sharing of knowledge and experience between its members and non-members from the telecommunications industry to advance and further promote the growth of the sector in the region. International roaming plays a very important role in driving the profits of telecom operators but also has a significant impact on consumers and hence SAMENA aims to facilitate discussions among operators, to provide suggestions and solutions that have tangible benefits for all stakeholders.
